As part of efforts to curtail Campaign of Columny, use of hate speeches, promote peace amongst Governorship Candidates in Delta State, ensure INEC maintains it’s promise on free and fair elections; Security Agencies promote Professionalism, Media and other relevant stakeholders carryout their duties effectively.The leadership of Forum of Governorship Candidates in Delta State for the 2023 general elections has said it will continue to update Deltans on the activities of the group and ready to congratulate any of its members that will emerge victorious as the winner of the forthcoming Guber elections in Delta State through a democratic process.
The media learnt this today being on Tuesday, 4th day of October, 2023 in a communique reached after a meeting of the Forum of Governorship Candidates for the 2023 Governorship election in Delta State as anchored by its Chairman, Prince Henry J. E. Eze (JP), who doubles as the Governorship Candidate of Allied People’s Movement (APM), which was held in IPAC Secretariat Asaba, Delta State Capital.
The forum had commended the leadership of Independent National Electoral Commission for the good job done in the new electoral act which has helped in rancor free Guber primaries amongst political parties and epitomizes credibility, and thoroughness in the electoral processes. The group also commended INEC for publishing names of candidates justling for the Governorship seat of Delta State and the Commission plans to give go ahead order on 12th October for political campaigns to kick-start by Candidates for the 2023 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum during the press Conference,the Chairman, Prince Henry Rze tasks INEC on the need to maintain neutrality, timely dessimination of information to Candidates, Political Parties, use of appropriate channels through IPAC.
The Forum also called on Security Agencies to ensure that its members maintain high degree of Professionalism in the discharge of its duties. The group used the medium to appeal to media men to give reasonable and equal coverage to all Candidates, and Delta State Government to avail Political Parties equal opportunities to have access to its facilities like stadium, arcade, fields and other relevant spaces for Political Campaigns for all Political Parties Candidates.
The communique as presented to the media by the forum’s Chairman, Prince Henry J.E. Eze (JP) reads in parts: ” We warn against Calumny, character assassination, unfounded rumours, hate speeches, ill motivated Campaigns, and libellous publications that can cause crises within the political class and amongst Guber Candidates. We encourage excellent inter-party relations and issue based campaign by Political Parties, Guber Candidates”.
“We frowned at the following case in points in line with the above warning: In a recent television interview where Delta SDP Guber Candidate, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi referred to Chief Sheriff Oborevwori as ex- convict, and a sponsored publication against Labour Party Candidate, Ken Pela as fraudster who ones defrauded a Community Bank several years ago”.
“Our Forum will continue to come out with press releases to inform Deltans of issues trending in the electoral space from time to time to enable the electorates keep abreast with the happenings in the State. We are committed to peace, unity of Deltans, respect for electoral process and ready to congratulate any of our members that emerges winner in the forthcoming 2023 Governorship elections in Delta State in a free, fair and credible contest”.
