****AN ADDRESS BY THE VICE-CHANCELLOR, PROF EUGENE O. NWADIALOR ON THE OCCASION OF THE 17TH MATRICULATION OF TANSIAN UNIVERSITY, TODAY FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2024.

Respected Members of Staff,
Beloved Students,
Cherished Parents & Guardians,
Ladies & Gentlemen of the Press,
Other Distinguished Visitors.

It is with great pleasure and a profound sense of responsibility that I stand before you today on the occasion of the 17th Matriculation Ceremony of Tansian University. This day mark a significant milestone in the academic Journey of our matriculating students and indeed in the history of our esteemed institution.

Firstly, I extend a warm welcome to all our matriculating students.
Congratulations on your successful admission to Tansian University. You have made a wise choice to join a community dedicated to excellence, innovation and the holistic development of the individuals. I also extend my heartfelt appreciation to the parents and guardians who have entrusted us with education and future of their children.
Your support and faith in our institution are invaluable and will not be taken for granted.

Today we celebrate not just the beginning of an academic Journey, but also the commencement of a transformative experience that will shape your lives in innumerable ways. Tansian University is committed to providing an environment where you can grow intellectually, morally and socially.

Tansian University was founded by Late Msgr. Prof. J. B. Akam to immortalize the only Nigerian who is declared by the Church as Blessed -Blessed Cyprian Michael Iwene Tansi. As an academic institution, we strive to embrace teachings and virtues of Blessed Iwene Tansi. Our University stands on the principles of academic excellence, integrity and service to Humanity. Our Motto, “Scientia Potestas et Virtus”, -Knowledge is Power & Virtue-encapsulates the very essence of Tansian University education. These values are deeply embedded in our culture and practices. As new members of this academic family, you are now part of a legacy that has produced outstanding graduates who are making significant contributions to society both locally and globally. In Tansian University, we believe that true education goes beyond the mere acquisition of facts and figures. It is about nurturing critical thinkers, problem solvers and leaders who can navigate the complexities of the 21st century.

Let me take a moment to highlight the unique opportunities that await you here at Tansian University. Our academic programs are fully approved by the National Universities Commission and other relevant Professional Bodies and are equally designed to challenge and inspire you. We have a team of dedicated and highly qualified lecturers who are not only experts in their fields but are also passionate about teaching and mentoring. They are here to guide you, to stimulate your critical thinking, and to support your academic and personal growth.

In addition to our rigorous academic curriculum, Tansian University offers a wide range of extracurricular activities. These activities are integral to your education as they foster leadership, team work and creativity. I encourage you to take full advantage of these opportunities.

As you formally embark on this Journey today, it is important to remind you that the pursuit of knowledge is not without its challenges. There will be moment of intense study, deadlines to meet, and concepts that may seem difficult to grasp. Do not lose hope; always remember that challenges are stepping stones to success. With perseverance, hardwork, prayer and the right attitude, you can overcome any obstacle.

Let me further remind you that integrity and ethical conduct are cornerstones of our university community. As you strive for academic success, it is imperative that you uphold the highest standards of honesty and Integrity. Examination malpractice and any form of academic dishonesty are not tolerated and can have serious consequences. Therefore, I urge you all to be committed towards maintaining the integrity of our academic endeavours and to contribute positively to our university’s reputation.

At this juncture, I want to make a very important and unequivocal statement: Tansian University, under my watch, maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards cultism and any related activities. Cultism is a grave menace that undermines the values of education and the safety of our university community. It is strictly prohibited, and anyone found to be involved in cult-related activities will face disciplinary actions. Let it not be heard that a student or Tansian University is involved in any form of cultism as anyone found culpable will face immediate expulsion.

We are committed to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for all students. Cultism has no place in our institution.
I urge you all to steer clear such activities and to report any suspicious behavior to the university authorities immediately.
Together, we can ensure that Tansian University remains a place of peace, security and academic excellence.

I would also like to emphasize the importance of diversity and inclusivity in Tansian University. As enshrined in our University Anthem, Tansian University is “a citadel of good living for all people without distinction”. Truly, Tansian University is a melting pot of cultures, ideas and perspectives. I beckon on you to embrace this diversity, learn from one another. Respect each other’s differences and foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

To the parents and guardians present today, I assure you that your children are in good hands. We are committed to providing them with a safe, nurturing and intellectually stimulating environment. Your support and collaboration are crucial, and we look forward to working closely with you in guiding your children towards achieving their full potentials.

In conclusion, I want to reiterate that today marks the beginning of an exciting and transformative chapter in the lives of our newly admitted students. You are now part of the Tansian University family, a family that is committed to nurturing your talents, shaping your character, and preparing you for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
