Peace, Unity & Development: Monarch, Asagba Of Asaba Pledges Partnership With “Izu Ikei Aniocha-Oshimili” As Group Asks FGN, NASS To Give Constitutional Roles To Traditional Rulers In The Country.

A group under the aegis of “Izu Ikei Aniocha-Oshimili” led by its President, Chief Peter A. Dunkwu, the Odogwu of Okpanam has called on the Federal Government, particularly the National Assembly to come out with a clear constitutional role for Traditional Rulers in the Country.

The leadership of “Izu Ikei Aniocha-Oshimili” in a press statement made available to newsmen by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Uche Emma Aboh in Asaba, Delta State capital after courtesy call by the leadership delegation to the Monarch, ASAGBA OF ASABA, Professor Chike Edozien, CFR at his palace in continuation of the group’s consultation with Traditional Rulers in the area.

The leadership stated that given constitutional roles to Traditional Rulers would greatly enhance security and guarantee unity among the people. The group added that Traditional Rulers are very close to the people and knows what to do at any point in time for lasting peace.

Professor Chike Edozien, in his contribution noted with pleasure the group’s efforts in bringing peace and unity in Aniocha/Oshimili through their consultations with Traditional Rulers in the area pledging his willingness to partner with the group to work assiduously for the sustenance of peace and progress not only within the area but in the Country.

Earlier on, the President of Izu Ikei Aniocha – Oshimili, Chief Peter A. Dunkwu, the Odogwu of Okpanam informed the Monarch that the body was on consultation with the Traditional Rulers in the area to create a culture of lasting peace and unity in the Federal Constituency.

Acccording to him, “the visit is part of the body’s objective. The body, he noted is also to provide guidance and collective leadership in all matters affecting the interest, solidarity and general welfare and to protect and preserve the cultural heritage of our people which will lead to the needed unity”.

He noted that without peace, there can be no development and progress. He stated further that, “Traditional Rulers stand distinct and better positioned to bring peace because they are closer to the people”.

Among those present during the consultative visit to the Monarch were: Prince Sir Clement Okonjo (JP), Vice President, Chief Chris Biose, Secretary, Chief Linus Nwaozomudo (C.P. Rtd), Ogbuenyi S.E. Onwodi, Prof. Leroy C. Edozien and Mr. P. O Okenji.
