A Socio-political forum of elders from Aniocha-Oshimili Federal Constituency, “IZU IKEI ANIOCHA-OSHIMILI” led by its National President, Chief P.A Dunkwu (JP), the Odogwu of Okpanam, National Secretary, Chris Biose has frowned at the recent brutal attack and killing of some military officers of the highest Nigerian military institution, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) that led to the murder of one of their illustrious sons, Late Lt. Cdr Samuel Okpunor Awolo, a promising officer from Ubulubu in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State as group described the ugly development as unthinkable and unbelievable
The group made this disclosure in a press statement made available to some group of Journalists today in Asaba, Delta State capital by the National Publicity Secretary of “IZU IKEI ANIOCHA-OSHIMILI”, Mr. Uche Emma Aboh soon after the emergency meeting of the group chaired by its Leader and President, Chief Peter A. Dunkwu (JP), the Odogwu of Okpanam, a veteran educationalist while Commiserating with the family of victims, then condemned the murder of one of their illustrious sons, the deceased, Late Lt. Crd Samuel Okpunor Awolo during the brutal attack.
The group condemned in strong terms the brutal attack and assault on Nigerian highest military formation noting with displeasure, the seemly politicization of the security of the people of this great nation by the current leadership at the centre.
The body frowned at why the present administration has reneged on its statutory responsibility or incapacitated in carrying out its fundamental duty as enshrined in Chapter II, Section 14, Sub-section 2b of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, which declares that “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”.
The body further pointed out that President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces and a retired Major General, was expected to be in a good position to decisively deal with security problems which beset the country.
The press release reads in Parts: “We the People of Aniocha-Oshimili, a group “IZU IKEI ANIOCHA-OSHIMILI” decried the insensitivity of the Federal Government on security situation of the country. We stress the need for the federal government to urgently and properly identify the so called gunmen and to openly bring them to book. It noted that the body was keenly watching and expecting the result of the internal investigation going on as any cover up would not be accepted”.
“As a group, we express sadness and we are deeply grieved by the murder of one of our illustrious son and aggrieved due to the lack of appropriate political approach by the Federal Government in tackling the security situation in the country which is now manifesting some characteristics of a failed state”.
“It would be recalled that in January 2016, one of Aniocha-Oshimili first-class traditional rulers, late Obi of Ubulu-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, was abducted and gruesomely killed and it would appear that there is no end in sight to these dastard and insensitive killing by so called “gun men”.
“We finally called on the Federal Government to do the needful to secure lives and property of citizens”.
