The Executive Director, ED, Working Fingers International Initiative (WOFII), Ambassador Dr Eris Jewo -Ibi in partnership with some local and International groups has set agenda on SDGs 1-5, and 16 &17 as group recently embarked on 2 days campaign to promote good health/peaceful home-breast cancer regular check-up among Women, and campaign against child sexual and violence against women and drug abuse in Delta State.
Ambassador Dr. Eris Jewo- Ibi made this remark in her office today being 27th October, 2021 in a media chat with Newsmen in Asaba, Delta State capital stated that the two days grassroots campaign took place in Sapele and Ethiope-West, two Local Government Areas of Delta State in partnership with Local Government Council officials, other development partners, resource persons in fulfilment of the WoFII’s mission and vision Statement accomplished.
According to her, “Working Fingers International Initiative, WoFII vision is envision a peaceful and just society irrespective of Gender and status”.
“Also, the mission of the organization is to empower vulnerable women, girls, PWDs, youths and communities through programs and interventions, gender protection, good governance, economic empowerment, prevention of deadly diseases, provision of health services, social justice, Community, self help projects and collaboration for sustainable socio-economic development” .
Dr. Eris Jewo-Ibi briefing the press on the campaign proper in Sapele on the key major roles played by some organizations, groups, development partners, and resource persons such as Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Delta State Branch led by Dr. Ngozi Nzekwe, alongside the Sapele Zonal Chairman, MWAN, Dr. Ebereghwa Egwono, Association Against Child Sexual And Gender-Based Violence, AACSGBV represented by Lady Beauty Elo.
Others are: Forum of African Women Educationist, Delta State Chapter, FAWE led by Deaconess Agnes Ofugara, Women Wing Of Christian Association of Nigeria, WOWICAN, Sapele Chapter represented by the LGA Secretary, Mrs Alakpocha Becky, Sapele Local Government Council Representative/Women Development Officer, Madam Akawavbiokpeu Atose, MADEN Health Care Foundation, RUDERF, ROTARY CLUB Sapele, Dr. S.A Agbatutu and the host, WoFFI focal person in SapeleLocal Government Area, Mrs Uruemuesiri Omoraka.
Mrs Omoraka who welcomed the guests and introduced the 17 United Nations, UN Sustainable Development Goals to the guests, while she stated that special focus were to be on SDGs 1-5 and 16 and 17 during the campaign as part of WOFFI’s SDGs domestication program of WoFII in the local communities.
The resource persons, and groups’ representives during the Sapele Local Government Area Campaign, the Women, selected community leaders, and othe trainees, which she said is a training of trainers as they were enlightened, taught, sensitized on the importance of the UN-17 SDGs with a focus on promotion of good health, Peaceful homes, fight against child and sexual based-violence, regular breast cancer check-up and drug abuse.
The Executive Director, ED, WOFII , Amb. Eris in that occasion after defining child abuse, advised parents to provide the necessary care, Education, and protection for their children. She stated that the campaign was focus on Child’s Rights Law and Violence Against Persons Law as passed by Delta State Government. She then enjoined them not to abuse their children to avoid physical, emotional, psychological neglect.
In day two of the campaign, WOFII visited Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta. WOFII’s SDGs campaign major focus act was on street awareness, rally on SDGs as usual distribution of Information, Educational and Communicational materials to help educate the general society.. That is, the way it was done in Sapele as campaign was to taken to Akpobome Primary School as the importance of Education arises as SDGs 4 became a challenge in Ethiope West to erase the belief by some young school children that, “SCHOOL NA SCAM”.
She stated that in rounding off advocacy on SDGs in the two LGAs, in Ethiope West 35 SDGs’ advocates in the school/Mosogar Community were trained, while in Sapele 61 SDGs’ advocates were trained in the LGA with results expected from the SDGs Ambassadors.
