The race for the Delta Central Senatorial seat continues to attract public interest as members of Delta’s elite line up to declare their interest to run. The latest entrant is Chief Oghenovo Edewor, the son of renowned Delta business man, Chief James Ogboko Edewor, who recently obtained the Expression of Interest form to run under YPP.
Speaking on his declaration, Chief Edewor said he reached his decision after extensive consultations with critical stakeholders across the Senatorial district and believed that his candidacy would ensure that the people of Delta Central “receive responsible and responsive legislative representation at the Red Chamber”.
Edewor’s decision to run could ruffle some feathers as he is considered to be popular among a large section of the youths from the Senatorial district. Chief Edewor was a foundling member of the APC and a one time House of Assembly aspirant. He moved to the Young Progressive Party where he has helped to build a formidable political structure, Chief Edewor’s chances appear strong as he enjoys a level of influence among the YPP delegates within his constituency, which would make him a force to be reckoned with.
Edewor is the patron of the Chief Oghenovo Edewor Foundation, which is recognised for its extensive charity works across the state, including providing scholarships to underprivileged youth, feeding and providing stipends to the aged and orphans. The foundation has received several commendations over the years, and has won Chief Edewor several honorary awards both locally and internationally.
With a degree in Politics from the University of Buckingham and a Law degree from the University of Hertfordshire, Chief Edewor believes his vast academic knowledge, and a successful career in business prepares him to navigate the complex terrains of public service. He also insists that, as the youngest contestant in the race, he would be the best representative for the youth, who make up roughly half of the state’s population.
Edewor joins another scion of one of Delta’s great personalities, Chief Ede Dafinone, the son of Chief David Omueya Dafinone, who is contesting under the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, he insists that the contest is rather about a collective effort to work for the development of Delta State than a platform for a personality contest. On this note, he insists that his campaign would be focused on the many gains that his candidacy would bring to the people of Delta state who deserve continued dedicated representation at the centre
