Some are born great. Some have greatness entrusted in them while some others work hard to eche greatness. Within those categories can be found essential of Ika Etumuse. I have known him for his assiduity, commitment to principles that he hold dear. While others may not think at all or think outside the Carton, Ika thinks outside the box, coming out with many innovations. Like a proverbial Chinua Achebe character, he has been marked out for great things especially in the realms of leadership where he has been adequately tested. Though his maxim is “turn by turn,” he has shown qualities that put him ahead of his peers. This Ika FIRSTS Achievers & Events Compendium is one such from his stables that would have utility values for all Ika People and Friends from other ethnic Communities. “IKA FIRST ACHIEVERS & EVENTS” to me is a sort of ‘roll call’ or compendium of Ika Sons and Daughters who are the FIRST initiators in their different fields and pioneering events that have taken place in Ika Nation and has helped to shape Ika image and values. These are men and women who have been able to identify strength in weakness, opportunities in challenges and saw beyond their limitations.
It is not out of place to call these Ika Sons and Daughters the “Ika Innovators.” According to late Steve Jobs, innovation distinguishes a leader from a follower. These “Innovators” are the true pioneers of Ika.
This publication no doubt is insightful, informative and inspiring. It will obviously ignite or re-ignite the passion among the Ikas, to always bring honor to their root or homeland by being the First and the best in all they do, wherever they find themselves.
There is no doubt also that this work will be a wake-up call to many others to do their best to contribute to the development of Ika nation, knowing that their efforts will be recognized and will not be in vain. This book will indeed be an impetus for the actualization of Ika Hall of Fame, which has long been over due.
The Authors in my kind opinion should be highly commended for the extensive historical research carried out in identifying the great feats of these Ika great minds/personalities as well as the epoch making events of the past. It is therefore, my considered view that “IKA FIRST ACHIEVERS & EVENTS” is a must read for everyone of Ika extraction as it will be an excellent tool for research.

- Naturally I find it an onerous task spilling commendations because most times we misplace the role of community service for a Philanthropic posture especially within our local parlance in Nigeria.
