By Victor Bieni, Warri
A group under the umbrella of Delta Women For Gender Equality Advocacy Forum (DWGEAF), has urged Egbema Unity Forum to stop sponsored, politically motivated attack on the daughter of former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan over Commisionership slot in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State as they have no constitutional rights stopping women from taking up leadership positions anywhere in Delta State and Nigeria in general
The women group made this remark today being Thursday June 29, 2023 in a press statement which was signed by the Delta State Coordinator of DWGEAF, Comrade Mercy Okonwo DWGEAF State Secretary, Lawrence Ese which was made available to some group of Journalists in Warri, Delta State as women advocacy group asks Egbema group to stop attack on Uduaghan’s daughter over Commisionership slot urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on women inclusion in Delta politics.
You could recall that Egbema group in a media reports has asked Oborevwori not to appoint Uduaghan’s daughter as Commissioner citing injustice in the political leadership between Ijaws and itsekiris in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State. Egbema group has forgotten that the present Executive Chairman of Warri North Local Government Area is from Egbema of Ijaw ethnic Nationality. Also the group has forgotten to enlighten the public that the present DESSOPADEC Commissioner Representing the area is Egbema of Ijaw ethnic Nationality.
The Delta Women Gender Advocacy group that has political structures in the three Senatorial Districts 25 LGAs, and entire polling units of Delta State is a socio-political pressure whose objectives are to protect the rights of women, advocate for gender equality, women inclusion in Delta politics and Nigeria in general as well women mobilization, massive empowerment and employment opportunities for young girls. The group has frowned at unwarranted attack on Ms Orode Uduaghan by Egbema Unity Forum noted that it is not the constitutional rights of any individual, or group to stop any one from taking up leadership position, especially women who are currently marginalized in the political affairs of Warri North Local Government Area.
The women group said: ” Your argument that her father, Uduaghan had sealed a deal with Governor Oborevwori is baseless. Ms Uduaghan had personally worked and supported this government and not merely coming on the grace of her father”. She is currently the South-South PDP Female Wing Coordinator, coordinating the entire South-South.
This is a young Deltan that has combined politics with development and service to humanity as the women urged Egbema Unity Forum to desist further attack on her person as such erroneous sentiments will not only heat up the politics in the locality but deceive the masses and may not have positive impact on the growth and development of Warri North Local Government Area.
Ms Uduaghan has shown excellent political good-will as a young politician. She had served Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development and most importantly in governance has assisted the immediate past Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on creating policies and projects for entrepreneurs across the State.
Ms Orode Uduaghan has greater development and political experience and is well prepared for any task. According to the group the current political landscape in Warri North Local Government Area does not in anyway show any aorta of injustice, lack of fairness and equity.
The statement reads in parts: “Delta Women Gender Equality Advocacy Forum is highly perturbed over constant unwarranted attack against the personality of Ms Orode Uduaghan in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State. Women should not be stopped from taking up leadership positions in their locality, especially in Warri North. Egbema Unity Forum has no constitutional right to stop women from ascending to higher positions of governance in Delta State. Oborevwori’s administration believes in gender Mainstreaming and women inclusion”.
“Ms Orode Uduaghan is a loyal and committed PDP member who has worked day and night for the victory of the party.
Therefore we also use this medium to urge Governor Sheriff Oborevwori not to listen to such media publications aimed at attacking the personality of Ms Orode Uduaghan by some mischievous persons in Warri North Local Government Area.”
