Professor Paul Omojo Omaji, a Professor of Criminology & Vice-Chancellor, Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), Ibusa, Delta State, Nigeria, has said that the institution of higher as owned by Nigerian Navy, a leading institution renowned for its global outlook, transformative education, focused and productive learning environment is committed to academic excellence and nurturing of Luminary leaders to contribute to socio-economic, sustainable development of Delta State, Nigeria and the world at large.

Professor Omojo Omaji made this remark on Saturday, February 17, 2024 during the higher institution’s Matriculation Ceremony for students admitted 2023/2024 Academic Session held at Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba Multi-purpose Hall Main Campus, Ibusa, Delta State as ADUN Matriculates a total of 352 students in different faculties; Departments of the University.

The Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) was established under the private Universities Act CAP E3, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 via the issuance of an operating license in December 2017, by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The University, initially owned by the Nigerian Navy, is now a Federal University through an Act assented to, by the immediate past President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Gen. Muhammad Buhari (rtd.) GCFR on the 8th February, 2023.

Presenting his speech at the event, ADUN VC, Prof Omojo Omaji congratulated the 352 Matriculants for their successful admission into various departments, facilities of the University as bonafide students as he described the matriculants as promising young minds poised to witnessing good beginnings and exciting journeys at ADUN. Prof Omojo Omaji, then used medium to enjoin them on the need to maintain decorum, discipline, good behaviour and ethical standards in pursuit of the ideology of the institution and surpassing ordinary standards in their respective pursuits.

Most importantly, prior To the address by the Keynote speaker, Dr. Kingsley Emu, and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s Goodwill message to the University, ADUN Vice-Chancellor, has commended the founding fathers of the University, Delta State Government,Federal Government of Nigeria on support. He also appreciated the Senate, Management, Staff and Students, Special Guest of Honor, Distinguished dignitaries, Media, parents, guardians and other participants for coming and celebrating with them at the momentous occassion, honouring their invitation to ADUN 6th Matriculation Ceremony as he wished them safe journeys back to their respective destination.

Secretary to Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu who was the Keynote Speaker at the event lectured on the Matriculants, students, University Community and other participants on the topic: “Achieving Career Objectives in a Challenging Economy:
The Role of Government & Universities in Partnership”.
Dr. Kingsley Emu in his lecture groomed the new generation of bright minds embarking on their academic journeys on the need to brace up for entrepreneurial growth and development and stressed on how the University and the Government can help them achieve it. Dr. Kingsley Emu, has said during the lecture that as part of the collaborative efforts in the areas of joint initiatives, information exchange and others, the partnership between DTSG & ADUN.

According to the Keynote Speaker, the partnership between Delta State Government, ADUN is geared towards making the students actualize their dreams, in pursuit of their career in the institution. Also, that Government is charged with the responsibilities of providing technical education in higher institutions and vocational centres, security, intelligence and others. And, that ADUN, University’s roles include: To provide the relevant curriculum, Research and innovation, industry partnership, counselling and career services, entrepreneurial programs and continuous learning opportunities to students.
Dr. Emu also, used medium to charge the matriculants, students to focus more on developing themselves through various Skills and entrepreneurial programs in career areas such as: Artificial Intelligence experts, Digital Marketers, Software Engineers, Cyber security, Financial Analysts, Social Media experts Aerospace Engineer and other Professionals Certifications.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori speaking at the event ably represented by his Commissioner For Higher Education, Prof Tonukari Johnbull then congratulated the matriculants, commended ADUN management on Commitment to academic excellence. Governor Oborevwori said: “I urge the matriculants, students to see themselves as ambassadors of ADUN, stay focus, strive for excellence. There is freedom in the University, but don’t trample on rights and privileges of others. I urge ADUN to develop more extra-curricula activities for the students. ADUN will continue to receive support from Delta State Government”.

Also, Speaking is Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff and Rear Admiral Hamza Kaoje, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Navy Holding Limited, the duo had congratulated the Matriculants, commended the management for their hardwork as he stated that the institution with its motto anchored on education excellence, committed to professionalism and promised that Nigerian Navy will work hard to make the University a full fledged Federal University as approved by Federal Government given the welfare of its staff a priority attention. Adding that, they will work to fulfil ADUN’s main objectives such as: To expand the frontiers of knowledge in various unique specializations such as maritime, logistics management, forensics and cyber security sciences.
