*****COMMUNIQUE REACHED BY THE EXECUTIVE OF DELTA STATE IPAC CONCERNING LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION TIME TABLE.
PREAMBLE
The Inter -Party Adivisory Council Delta State chapter, comprising all Political Parties in the State held a crucial meeting with Management of DSIEC and other relevant stakeholders on the 30th of April, 2024 at Asaba, capital of Delta State to discuss issues pursuant to the conduct of a free, fair and credible Local Government elections.
In that meeting the DSIEC Chairman told all stakeholders that the the Commission will soon come out with an election time table. To our surprise, some mischievous persons came out with a fictitious online publication claiming that DSIEC had come out with an election time table for the upcoming local government election.
COMMUNIQUE:
Following from the above, IPAC wishes to state as follows:
(1)At no time did the DSIEC Chairman, Dr Jerry Agbaike ,either by himself or by proxy announce a date for the local Government election, during or after the meeting with Stakeholders on the 30th of April,2024.
(2)The election time table being circulated is false and baseless as it was done by some mischievous persons aiming to cause unnecessary tension in the State.
(3)IPAC completely dissociates itself from the fake timetable in circulation even though the DSIEC Chairman has also disowned it,and warns the authors to desist from any act capable of causing a breach of the peace.
(4)IPAC maintains that Delta State is a peaceful state and distractors should not use the state as a platform for their nefarious activities.
(5)IPAC further states that the Chairman of DSIEC has promised to look into the issues raised by IPAC in the April 30th interactive meeting and we have no reason to disbelieve his assurances.
(6)That IPAC calls on DSIEC Chairman, Sir Dr. Agbaike, a tested administrator who retired meritoriously from the Delta State Public Service after serving as Permanent Secretary for 11 years to march his words with actions by giving Deltans a free, fair and Credible LGA election. As a PhD. in Political Science and have attended several leadership & strategic courses abroad amongst others, we believe that he is eminently qualified for the position of DIESEC Chairman.
This Communique became necessary to set records straight and to maintain the status quo.
We therefore urge the DSIEC Chairman not to be distracted by these mischievous elements but should rather focus on delivering a free and fair election when the time comes as he promised all Stakeholders present in the meeting of 30th April,2024.
